Why Young People Rebel

Just a quick thought for you today . . . .

Teenagers are like Jello. If you treat them gently and give them some basic structure, they’re fine. But, the tighter you squeeze, the faster they leave.

I notice this as a youth leader. I can invite, plead, prod, and push young people. But I can never control them (and that’s a good thing).

I notice this when counseling parents. Those who hold on the tightest to their children have the least control in their lives.

But those who respect and honor their children, listen to them, and gently offer council . . . those type win. The same goes for youth leaders.
